Off-Season and Passed-Holiday Decorations Help Keep your Wedding Theme---and Budget
Allowing enough time, a year if possible, in planning your wedding will also give you another advantage: taking advantage of off-season and passed-holiday sales to buy items with which to decorate your wedding ceremony and reception.
To decorate a wedding on a budget, think ‘out of the box'. Look at holiday decorations in a new light that maybe you didn't perceive before and you might see and say, "Oh, these work to make wedding decorations if they were turned this way and spray painted."
Traditional and non-traditional wedding decorations are available year ‘round but can be expensive when they add up. Learn to cut the costs of your wedding decorations by buying "after holiday" decorations and you could save a bundle!
Decorate a Wedding using Past-Holiday Sales: By Season
- December 31-January1: New Year's Eve/Day can provide wedding decorations that are very glitzy yet elegant. Black and white wedding decorations if you are having a wedding that has a wedding theme with formal elements. Some things to buy on sale after the day has come and gone are:
- Champagne flutes
- Glittery confetti in all colors.
- Streamers, hats, horns, and whistles.
- Party trays, plastic ware.
- February 14: Valentine's Day, of course, has many romantic and decorative items in mostly colors of red, white, and pink. Some of the decorations you can buy on sale that would work for your wedding decorations could include:
- Napkins, red, white and pink table coverings and plates.
- Containers of candy hearts.
- Boxes of chocolates (can be frozen to preserve freshness).
- Pink, red, and white streamers.
- March 17: St. Patrick's Day is a "good luck" day to begin with and can offer "green" wedding decorations. Green wedding decorations would be especially good for weddings with a "go green/earth care" theme. Some items to look for on sale could be:
- Green and white streamers
- Green glasses and other glassware that could be turned into candles.
- Green foliage.
- Other green decorations that could be transformed into wedding decorations.
- March-April (April 4th in 2010): Easter is a great time of year to find very appropriate items for wedding decorations. Easter offers a variety of flower colors and other decorations in soft pastels. Some things you could look for on sale after Easter has ended:
- Silk flowers, small baskets, and ribbon.
- White napkins, tablecloths and other tableware.
- Wine glasses.
- Hats, gloves, and dresses.
- 4th Thursday in November (November 25th in 2010): Thanksgiving contains fall colors that could be incorporated into a wedding theme that has gold, brown, orange, and deep green colors. Some items to look for on sale:
- Cornucopias that could be filled with flowers and other wedding decorations and edibles.
- Woven baskets filled with pine cones and other wedding decorations such as candles.
- Napkins, plates, tablecloths, and other tableware.
- Turkey pans and warming trays.
- December 25: Christmas offers a variety of decorations outside of the traditional red and green colors and can offer a wide variety of other items to choose from for wedding decorations. Some things to look for include:
- Lights, candles, and candle holders.
- Gift boxes in various sizes.
- Gold, silver, white, and pearl trim.
- Craft items such as glue, hot glue guns, and more.
No matter what theme you decide on, taking advantage of after-holiday sales saves on your wedding budget with your wedding decorations.
